I am going to look at the history of Walt
Disney as a pioneer of the animating
world.
I put this particular image because this is what Walt Disney
aspired to and created great movies because of his imagination
Mickey mouse was based on a pet mouse Disney had while
he was working in Kansas and became his biggest success and
is now one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in history
The first short film that had Mickey Mouse in was called
"Plane Crazy" and this was a silent movie. Disney couldn't
find a distributor that would take Plane crazy and then the
second short film he created "The Gallopin Gaucho"
So he went back and this time created an animation with
sound called "Steamboat Willie" Which a lot of people think
is his first animation because it was the first to become famous.
Disney recieved a special academy award in 1932 for his
creation of mickey mouse. This series was then made into
colour in 1935. Very soon after spin-offs were made, those
which included Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, Pluto and Goofy.
When the Film Industry realized that Disney planned
to make a feature length they thought he was sure to fail
and named it "Disneys Folly"
Snow white and the seven dwarfs became the most
successful motion animation in 1938. Because of this
he released the other two motion pictures that he had
been working on in 1940. Pinocchio and Fantasia but these didn't
do nearly as well and were both financially disappointing.
Traditional Hand drawn animation, with which Disney
Started his company, is no longer used at the Disney
studios due to many traditional Animations losing them
money in the long run. A few studios had to be closed down
due to this and so they decided to stop doing them.
Most recently with the 2012 release of
Wreck-it Ralph
They decided that they would start using traditional hand
drawn aswell as computer animated animation.
fxg : Sugar rush is another of the worlds- how was that realized?
Karsavage : that actually lent itself to a more classically styled animation-
it had some of the things we would bring down from our traditionally trained
artists . We actually had an effects designers on the show who could draw
specific effects. Ralph had a pod he crashes into a candy cane forest
and so all the cake debris flying up from the surface of the ground - we
had traditional animators draw that to give us an indication of what we
should do in the digital world.
In this area of the film, the game "Sugarcrush" quite a lot
of it was actually created with traditional hand drawn animation
and then a few things added with computer animation.
I really enjoyed this film and its attention to detail is
incredible. the backgrounds constantly keep the viewer
occupied. The small things like the names and all of the sweets
in this area is fantastic. I think that they have pulled it off well.
