Design Quotes

I want to put something on my letters
so i am looking at quotes that
will go with my design and fit well on the letters

I quite like the way these ones are set out.
The background would be the colour of
whichever letter it was on, but i could do
something simular.

This mix of quotes is good for inspiration,
i like the idea of having a lot of different
fonts all on one letter.

I love this quote design, everything is
aligned with one another, and although
its a little difficult to read at first that
makes it more interesting because the
viewer has to really look at it.

Box prototype

After making this box from acetate i realised that it
isnt very easy to work with.
I have managed to make it work but it looks messy.

I measured it slightly wrong, but that could work in
my favour as i will be able to fit something else in
the box, but at the moment there is 2cm too much
space at the back.

The letters fit really nicely in every other way apart
from the back so i am pleased with that. the lid
also firs quite well.

3D letter prototypes

I am really pleased with how these have turned out, there were
a few problems but as a rough guide of how they will look
when they are laser cut i think they have worked better than i
expected.

For the "K" and the "N" i had to add 2 pieces of card to each
to fill in the gaps. but they have worked really well too.

I think the "B" needs some more tabs along the side because it
has ended up quite jagged. This will look better when i have
laser cut it.

Workshop 1

In this workshop we manipulated card at different angles to
create different effects.

Final Nets

After having quite a lot of trouble making these
work, these nets will be the ones i use.
there are tiny bits on the "K" and "N" that
i can't quite do but this should work well.

I plan to have each of the letters next to each other
in a transparent box. which will look effective.

I am planning on having each letter in different colours
and then matching that on the front some how.

The "B" was a little more difficult, but after a really
strange net i found a way that it could work properly.

Logo's

I have started playing with fonts and
text placement on photoshop and
these are my favorite so far.

Sliceform

 Laser-cutting session
This didn't exactly go to plan but i did cut out
one of the middle circles in 3mm acrylic.

So i decided that i would try to make it into a
sliceform with the 8 adjoining pieces.

After measuring it all out i have slotted square pieces
card into the slots and it stands very well.
the card isn't the ideal thing to use as it isn't
very strong but it works well this way.

After i put the square pieces on and it worked well
i decided that i wanted to curve the edges and that
worked equally as well but its more aesthetically
pleasing .

Company Brands

I have decided to look into DKNY because with very
block letters, not unlike the ones i have been modelling
this buisness has become a multi-million corporation
with great interest around the world,

All of the products fit in with the logo and the
business as a whole flows.
The main buisness, being fragrance has done really well
and on the front of the packaging in the bold letters,
the "DKNY" logo is found. The brand is really simple
yet extremely effective. Below shows the men's fragrance
and rather than changing anything, they have gone with the
same font and have aligned the "men" part with it. That is
what makes this product highly recognizable and successful

When "DKNY" Started the new range of clothing and
accessories in 1997 the universal brand continued, and as
it is shown on the watch below the chunky letters are
easily recognizable.

-------------------------------------------------------
Sony is another brand that i wanted to look into
because again they have a world-wide brand.
the typography is slightly different to "DKNY" but
its still quite bold and block,

Like other brands they have their company logo
"make . believe" which works really well,
it can be seen as a whole phrase and that makes it
fun but the full stop in the middle makes the company
seem like they make the unbelievable.

Their name is always visible on their products, new or old.
this is why it has become such a big brand and works
so well. Even when they have collaborated with another brand,

-----------------------------------------------------

Playstation is possibly one of the most famous
brands in the world, and this is only because they
have a good brand and good products.

even whilst they are competing with other companies,
such as "x-box" they still manage to do very well.

From the Playstation 1 to the new PSPVita the
font and logo have always stayed the same.
The logo has been developed so that it fits better
with their newer products but it is still very similar to
the older ones. The same font is used which makes
it more universal and more recognizable.

Initials

Logos

To start thinking about the logo for my design, i cut out my initials.
I decided to cut them out in a really simple block letter, i have done this
because it will give me somewhere to start and a lot of the
big brands do similar and they work well.

This first one, i decided to put the "k" backwards and the "b" on its side
I'm not too fond on this one, it doesn't seem to flow very well.

With this second design, i tried something a bit different and i think
it works really well,
by aligning the flat parts of the letters it has created a funky design.

This deisgn again i put the "k" backwards so that it would align
with the "n". Although this didn't work very well when i first
tried it, i think that this time it has been very effective and i
could see myself using something very similar to this.

I tried overlapping the "k" and the "n" but it doesn't work very well
and the idea is completely lost, i think it each letter were in different
colours then it would work a lot better.

For this design i decided to go with the letters all next to each other.
I feel it doesn't use the space very well because the letters
don't really fir together properly.

Like with my second design, i have tried aligning the letter by putting
them at angles, i don't think that this one works as well, but with
a bit of re-organizing i think one of the two would work really well.

Natalia Ponomareva
Origami Tea-bags

These bird shaped tea-bags are simple but unique.
they give off a natural and soothing feel, which links with
the effects of the green tea.

The outer packaging is brilliant too, the simple mix of the 2 colours
and 2 shapes works really well.

Transparent Containers

I have started looking into packaging that has used transparent materials
because that was one of my ideas for my container.

The top example have used it so you can actually see the fruit.
this design is very honest as it shows the buyer exactly what
they are buying. It has used quite a modern font that is linked
with the colour of the fruit in the product.

I like this idea, and i think on the outside of my packaging i will have some
kind of print, perhaps a drawing.

These packages are made from glass, so i wouldn't be able to duplicate that
concept, but i was interested in the typography on these.
The type looks really good as it is very bold and block.
I will have to look into type faces to decide what i will use.

I like how to the point these packages are, they are all in sync and matching
The little inscription on the front is a fantastic idea, i could make something
about myself and write it across the front.

I also like it how the words are all
aligned into a square.

Letters

I started looking at how other people have made letters into
Containers or boxes.

The picture above is what insipred my first idea, of having my
initials next to one and other to make a whole box.

The "a & z" above show how i would like to do my letters,
but i would like them to open properly at the front which
might cause problems with stability.

After looking at how letters had been used on other products
i decided to look at this for its shape. I could have a square with
a letter on it with a cylinder package slotted into the middle.

The beads reminded me of scrabble, Which i loved to play as
a kid! so i could have something along these lines on
the sides instead of just letters to make it a little more
interesting, but with it still including my initials it works quite well.
